I have long forgotten the password to unlock the computer, how do i change it now?

or and this is a recent event, it just started to lock up when screensaver comes on. how can i stop it also. thanksI have long forgotten the password to unlock the computer, how do i change it now?
Most home pcs are set with no password on the administrator account.

To check shut down the pc and restart it- keep hitting the function key f8 - this will bring up safe mode. Once there select the administrator account. Leave the password as blank and then hit return.

If you are lucky you will get in. Once there hit the start button and select control panel. There select users. You will see a list of users- select your acc and then selct change password- enter a new password and reboot as normal.

To get rid of the screen saver go back to control panel and select display then the screen saver tab and untick the password option.

If your screen is an lcd (TFT) then turn the screensaver off- it has no benefit as screen burn is no longer an issue these days. Instead change the time taken for the screen to turn off in power settings.

If you are really stuck and cant find any passwords then use spotmau powersuite to change the passwords

Hi Lcd(tft) means not a cathode ray tube (like the old monitor/tv style). Cathode ray tubes needed the screen saver to refresh the screen and prevent images burning into the screen (like a fixed ghost).

LCD aka TFT are flat screens an inch or so deep. They are mush less likely to suffer image burn

Restart the PC and then, before the screensaver comes on, go to the screensaver options and take the tick out of ';on resume, return to welcome screen'; or ';require password'; or similar (depending on WIndows Version)
People still have screensavers? Whoa. Dude. Seriously. Screensavers are so 2008. Get with the times, just delete that and be hip again with us non-screensaver people.
Try going into safe mode. Then go into administrator. Then from there go to Control Panel. User Accounts. And remove the accounts password.
Use Safe mode, then change the settings. also, if your on vista, you should be able to make a password reset disc for you computer.
how old are you
