A spyware or virus could have change your registry settings so that you are not able to change your screensaver.
To fix the registry you can do this:
1) Click Start and RUN and type REGEDIT and hit Enter.
2) The Registry Editor window will open. In the left panel go to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER%26gt;%26gt;Software%26gt;%26gt;
Microsoft%26gt;%26gt;Windows%26gt;%26gt;
CurrentVersion%26gt;%26gt;Policies
%26gt;%26gt;System
3) In the right panel you will probably see some entries such as ';NoDesktopDisplay'; or ';NoScreenSaverDisplay'; (I forgot the names exactly but it should be something like that) Basically delete those entries.
4) Now you should be able to change your screensaver in normal way (in your desktop, right click and select properties)Need to change screensaver, but can't find options????

You could put a personal photo on by 'right-mouse-clicking' on a favorite photo and choosing it as screensaver or desktop.
Also if you have webshots, click on their screensaver menu button and follow the directions.
:)
Where's your display at? I change my screensavers in my display. Otherwise you'll have to format to get rid of that virus.
im not sure if you tried this, but if you right click on your desktop and click properties and go to screen saver you can change it.
You got spyware I believe, I remember i had it once. to change your screen saver or desktop just simply do this...
Start%26gt;control Panel%26gt;Appearance and themes%26gt; Then Change Screensaver
i have this problem and ';will'; has the correct answer. god i thought i would have this problem forever because like you i could not find the virus or spyware through scans
