How to get rid of virus on computer?

My little brother accidently downloaded a program and ever since then it restarts it by itself. Also the screensaver always changes to a white screen tht says ';spyware detected on your computer';. How can I keep a desktop without it changing. And how can I stop it from restarting?How to get rid of virus on computer?

If its saying spyware then you need a spyware remover and viurs protection programs wont be able to remove it. Download spybot.

A friend had a similar problem that I tried to fix for him. You may need to boot up in safe mode by hitting F10 before windows starts up.We ran the Avast virus scan that is available for free download on cnet.com. We also ran the Spybot spyware program. It found over 35k spyware/malware issues! Even after running all that it was still not taking care of some issues in the registry that were caused by the virus and virus removal. We ended up having to do a system restore as a last resort. His computer came with an automatic installed restore program, but if yours doesn't you should have a CD that came with your computer that you simply run from CD.
Unfortunately there is no single tool that can remove every infection. You need to analyze your system first, and then have someone create a regimen of manual fixes for your system. This can take a good chunk of time since most users never just have 1 infection, but multiple hidden infections.
