Major computer problems. please help!!!?

ok so a while back i started getting pop ups like crazy. i installed this spyware thing to clean it out and it didnt seem like it did anything. one day not too long ago, that program started freaking out and screwed up my computer. it changed the screensaver to say that i have viruses so i should use that program to fix it. then i tried to get on the internet and the page would come up but literally 2 seconds later, would just close. i cant get on the internet anymore and i dont know how to fix it. i uninstalled that program but idk what else to do. please helpppp!!Major computer problems. please help!!!?
Your problem is a combination of running Windows, lack of security, and ad-ware.

A thing you could do is type ';msconfig'; into run and disable everything in the startup area that you aren't sure is needed or important and see if that helps. Leave only ctfmon enabled.

You should uninstall the program you installed, install Trend Micro Internet Security and give that a good scan.

If that doesn't help, use system restore to set the computer back before you had the problem.

If that doesn't work, you will need to completely un-install Windows (format it) and re-install, making sure to back up your programs and files.

If you don't want to get the same problem again, choose a real OS to install instead of Windows, something like Ubuntu, or at least get good internet security software running on Windows.Major computer problems. please help!!!?
It sounds like you have acquired a lil slice of add-ware. These annoying pieces of code are put out on the Internet so people will download them and install them, and be annoyed till time forgot.

You my friend require an add-ware removal tool. You might try a ad-aware a general free down loadable removal product.

or you may try something like an anti-virus program. If these don't work your machine may require a full wipe to remove the software those this is rare. The real key is prevention. Research any application you download for free off the Internet, and make sure it is a reputable piece of software.
Hi!

I Used Kaspersky anti virus to remove the ones i get on clients pcs.

works like a charm.

If you want to try it, get the trial, update it full, and do a system scan. After it, u can uninstall or buy it(if u like it)

Good luck
The fix action for this type of browser hijack is not simple, so bear with me as I'm running a Linux box and can't easily reference what I'm talking about (and I don't have that type of problem either ;)

Bring up Internet Explorer. It will say “your computer has such and such virus” Whatever it says, google that along with the term “spyware” or if that doesn't work, try “virus”.

Whatever ails your computer is specific to the actual program that is damaging your computer and somewhere out there in the cloud that is the Internet there will be an answer.

PRINT WHATEVER GUIDE YOU PLAN ON USING BEFORE YOU START

You will have to enter safe mode and as such will likely lose your network connectivity (some BHOs report home and you do NOT want that)

Follow it step by step. (if this is a really insidious attack, then you will not be able to Google whatever is infecting your computer from Internet Explorer. Try Mozilla Firefox, Netscape or something similar.)

If that doesn't help, just ask your question again with more specific details and I'll see what I can do.

Good luck to you.
It sounds like the ';antivirus'; you installed was itself a virus. I've seen this many times in my business. Was it Winantivirus by chance? If so, that is a virus and a bad program to install.

It sounds like you're infected with one or more viruses, browser hijacker, and possibly a desktop hijacker. You are well beyond anti-spyware at this point.

See below for a list of programs you can use and procedures, but honestly if you don't know what you are doing you are very likely to miss pieces and get re-infected later even if you install a good antivirus and antimalware software.

When it gets to this point I recommend that inexperienced users hire help to clean out their systems. Even with professionals like me it can take many hours to find all the hooks these things put into the system to hide and rise from the dead.

Download and install Avira Antivir (www.free-av.com) and Spybot Search and Destroy (http://majorgeeks.com/download2471.html)… These should do a good job, but they might not catch everything. You might have to go into Safe Mode with Networking to do this in your case. I agree with Wiaan that Kapersky is also a good product, but don't install more than one antivirus at a time.

Install them, update them, and reboot into Safe Mode (F8 during the startup process - http://www.computerhope.com/issues/chsaf… Choose Safe Mode with Networking.

Run the antivirus scan first, and remove anything it detects. Run SpyBot next, and also remove what it detects. Reboot the computer, get back into Safe Mode, and update the definitions for both programs again (they might be fully updated, but try just in case). Re-run the scans as stated above, and reboot into normal mode. Re-run the updates and scans again. When you are done, disable System Restore (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310405), and then re-enable it. Viruses love to hid in system restore where antivirus programs and others cannot get at them.

This *MIGHT* remove everything, but it might not. If you continue to have problems, I again suggest that you hire someone to help you out. I use a good half-dozen other tools to fight infections like this, and they can be complex.

Feel free to contact me if you have any further questions.
