I'm looking at an Ibook g3 800 mhz 12 inch laptop on ebay and the seller says that there is a red vertical line on the right side of the screen. I don't have much experience with these things but, I thought that it was rather the LVDS cable being pinched by the hinges or I was reading online that one person fixed theirs by changing the screensaver to something besides apple rss. I don't think it would have to do with the logic board.
So please give me all the help you can.
If it is the LVDS cable how do you replace it?
ThanksIbook g3 800 mhz red vertical line. How to fix?
It sounds to me like the electrical connection feeding one column of the LCD has broken. Put a Post-it note on the screen with the sticky edge right along the red line. If the line doesn't move when you change screen resolutions then it's even more likely to be a column drive wire. If you connect an external display and you still see the problem then it's NOT the connections in the LCD. It may be possible, but fairly tricky, to re-solder the physical connection. You'd have to disassemble the screen quite a bit to get access to the connections. The wires are also very close together so it will be hard to re-heat one without accidentally connecting to the next. The safest solution is to live with the problem.
