Basically, I need to defrag my laptop over night while I sleep. However, I tried this a while back and when I left the laptop unattended for about 30 minutes (without the lid being close) it looked like it had turned off and went into sleep mode and I wasn't sure if the defragmentation was continuing or not but the fans had turned off when this happen and there was no sound. And whenever I shut the lid, it automatically goes into sleep mode but I know how to change these settings. Basically, I need to leave it on all night, and for it not to turn off or go into sleep mode. I want the screensaver to stay on throughout the night but I don't want my laptop stopping the defragmentation when left attended for ages. Any help? Thanks. How do I change my laptop settings?

Right click on a blank part of the screen (not on an icon) Properties / Screen Saver scroll to None / Power at Turn off monitor scroll to NEVER / turn off hard disks scroll to NEVER / System Standby NEVER. Then apply. Your PC will NEVER do anything without you knowing about it or to say behind your back.

How do i get a screen saver?
In win xo , my screensaver is only able to do a slide show, how is it possible to change it to just stick on one photo%26gt;How do i get a screen saver?
if you only want the one pic for your screensaver, empty your ';my pics'; folder andjust put one in thereHow do i get a screen saver?
You don't want it to just stick on 1 photo. The whole point of a screensaver is to keep things moving, so your screen doesn't freeze up.
a) The idea of a screensaver is that the images are changed, so that the screen doesn't get overburdened by the same image, same colors (it does matter, I have seen icons burned through on the surface of a monitor). And the images change slowly, so that the processor, disc, and video card are not overburdened.
b) I think the slideshow contains the images located in the ';My Pictures'; folder (sorry, I am not on XP right now, so I cannot check, but I am pretty sure) - if you move your pictures to another folder and leave just one picture there, that might work.
if u want 1 pic only...thn y waste memory of ur pc on screen saver....go n past this pic as wallpaper....n enjoy the pic

Screensaver image on macbook?10 pts!!?
When i go to change screensavers, there are a few folders on in the little browser thing on the left that are like 'forest' 'beach' 'nature patterns' and whatnot. they came with the computer. well one of the images in the forest folder i really like, and would like to set as my desktop. so i was wondering how you get the image to separate from the screensaver slideshow so you could drag it onto your desktop or into your pictures folder. or the pictures on the web or anything??

I know I'm too late, but this is how you do it:
Macintosh HD %26gt; System %26gt; Library %26gt; Screen Savers %26gt; Find one that you like, say, Cosmos and right click it %26gt; Show Package Contents, click through until you get to pics. Drag the 1 you want into Desktop picture in System Preferences.

Change Your Screen Saver
To swap your current screen saver for another one:
Mac OS X contains several preinstalled screen savers.
From the Apple menu, choose System Preferences to open the System Preferences window.
Click the Desktop %26amp; Screen Saver button to display its preferences.
Click the Screen Saver tab to display just the Screen Saver preferences. All installed screen savers appear in the left pane. The right pane displays a preview of the selected screen saver.
Click one of the Screen Saver items in the left pane to select it for use.
If you'd like, click Test to see what the screen saver will look like in use.
To create a slideshow screen saver, do one of the following:
By selecting Library, your Mac will automatically create a slideshow screen saver made from your iPhoto pictures.
In the Screen Saver preferences window, select Library or one of the two choices below it to turn your iPhoto images into a slideshow screen saver.
In the Screen Saver preferences window, select Pictures Folder to display the images in it, or select Choose Folder, navigate to and select a folder that contains images in the resulting dialog, then click Choose to put it in use.
To add a third-party screen saver:
Once you install a third-party screen saver, either through an installer or manually,
you can select it just like you would with the preinstalled ones.
If the screen saver doesn't have an installer to place the file in the right folder, locate the .saver file in the package.
Drag the file into the Screen Savers folder, which is in the Library folder at the root of your hard disk ~/Library/Screen Savers.
Follow the steps in ';swap your current screen saver for another one,'; above, to select the third-party screen saver.
Customize Your Screen Saver
Now that you've outfitted your Mac with a new screen saver, you can further customize its settings. Here are some of the things you can do in the Screen Saver preferences window.
Click Options to view the selected screen saver's user-configurable display settings and adjust them to your liking. These settings will vary screen saver to screen saver.
Move the ';Start screen saver'; slider left or right to change the time, in minutes, at which the screen saver begins to play.
If you'd like the ability to start the screen saver manually, click Hot Corners. In the resulting dialog, choose Start Screen Saver from any of the four corner pop-up menus and click OK. The screen saver will start when you move your arrow to your chosen screen corner.
If you're the adventurous type, select ';Use random screen saver,'; and your Mac will automatically select a screen saver when it goes into screen saver mode.Php vs jsp hair cut styles

Computer Spyware Desktop and screensaver weird!?
Hey everyone, not to long ago i got a large spyware attack on my computer. the attack changed my desktop background to some blue screen with a box in the middle saying that i have spyware and should get a program to remove it. I ran spybot search and destroy and found the problem and i could change my desktop back. Though the weird screen saver was still there(its weird bugs that slowely eat the screeen)...every time they pop up i get an avast warning saying i got a virus. I ran a large virus check and only found a few things but nothing to fix the screensaver. The next day i turn on my computer and the background is back to the blue screen. So pretty much every time i restart or turn off my computer the blue screen comes back and the screensaver stays whether or not i run scans or turn off my computer....anyone got any idea how to fix thisComputer Spyware Desktop and screensaver weird!?

Spyware is computer software that is installed surreptitiously on a personal computer to intercept or take partial control over the user's interaction with the computer, without the user's informed consent.
While the term spyware suggests software that secretly monitors the user's behavior, the functions of spyware extend well beyond simple monitoring. Spyware programs can collect various types of personal information, such as Internet surfing habit, sites that have been visited, but can also interfere with user control of the computer in other ways, such as installing additional software, redirecting Web browser activity, accessing websites blindly that will cause more harmful viruses, or diverting advertising revenue to a third party. Spyware can even change computer settings, resulting in slow connection speeds, different home pages, and loss of Internet or other programs. In an attempt to increase the understanding of spyware, a more formal classification of its included software types is captured under the term privacy-invasive software.
In response to the emergence of spyware, a small industry has sprung up dealing in anti-spyware software. Running anti-spyware software has become a widely recognized element of computer security best practices for Microsoft Windows desktop computers. A number of jurisdictions have passed anti-spyware laws, which usually target any software that is surreptitiously installed to control a user's computer
-=Anti-spyware programs=-
Lavasoft's Ad-Aware 2008Many programmers and some commercial firms have released products designed to remove or block spyware. Steve Gibson's OptOut pioneered a growing category. Programs such as Lavasoft's Ad-Aware SE (free scans for non-commercial users, must pay for other features) and Patrick Kolla's Spybot - Search %26amp; Destroy (all features free for non-commercial use) rapidly gained popularity as effective tools to remove, and in some cases intercept, spyware programs. More recently Microsoft acquired the GIANT AntiSpyware software, rebranding it as Windows AntiSpyware beta and releasing it as a free download for Genuine Windows XP and Windows 2003 users. In 2006, Microsoft renamed the beta software to Windows Defender (free), and it was released as a free download in October 2006 and is included as standard with Windows Vista. Other well-known commercial anti-spyware products include:
PC Tools's Spyware Doctor (free scans but you have to pay to remove the spyware)
Sunbelt Software's Counterspy (15-day free trial)
Trend Micro's HijackThis (free)
Webroot Software's Spy Sweeper (free version does not remove spyware)
ParetoLogic's Anti-Spyware and XoftSpy SE (free version does not remove spyware)
Major anti-virus firms such as Symantec, McAfee and Sophos have come later to the table, adding anti-spyware features to their existing anti-virus products. Early on, anti-virus firms expressed reluctance to add anti-spyware functions, citing lawsuits brought by spyware authors against the authors of web sites and programs which described their products as ';spyware';. However, recent versions of these major firms' home and business anti-virus products do include anti-spyware functions, albeit treated differently from viruses. Symantec Anti-Virus, for instance, categorizes spyware programs as ';extended threats'; and now offers real-time protection from them (as it does for viruses).
Recently, the anti-virus company Grisoft, creator of AVG Anti-Virus, acquired anti-spyware firm Ewido Networks, re-labeling their Ewido anti-spyware program as AVG Anti-Spyware Professional Edition. AVG also used this product to add an integrated anti-spyware solution to some versions of the AVG Anti-Virus family of products, plus made a freeware AVG Anti-Spyware Free Edition available for private and non-commercial use. This shows a trend by anti virus companies to launch a dedicated solution to spyware and malware. Zone Labs, creator of Zone Alarm firewall have also released an anti-spyware program.

The recent proliferation of fake or spoofed antivirus products has occasioned some concern. Such products often bill themselves as antispyware, antivirus, or registry cleaners, and sometimes feature popups prompting users to install them. This software is called rogue software.

Getting the sound of thunder and rain off my PC?
For awhile now on our family pc there is a sudden thunderclap audio noise and I do not know how it got there and I cannot find the program to turn it off or change it. I looked at the control panel under volume and sound manager. I do not even know why it goes off. This is not a malfunction of the speakers as someone suggested. It must be an theme option for sound but I cannot find it. It is almost like an audio version of a screensaver and comes and goes periodically and only lasts for a few seconds.Getting the sound of thunder and rain off my PC?

Computer screen: everything that used to be white now is teal color?
I just turned on my laptop after it being off for 5-6 days. Everything that used to be white (icons, text, background, screensaver) is now a teal blue color. It also looks as though there is a white shadow behind the black font (like what I'm typing now -- there is a teal background, black font, and a white shadowing on the black font). How do I change this to the standard white background? Is something seriously wrong with my laptop?Computer screen: everything that used to be white now is teal color?
Your monitor cable inside the laptop might be loose. My old laptop used to do something like this. Id press my fingers on both sides of the monitor at the bottom where the cover part is, and it would straighten out. Or Id just close the laptop and reopen it again and it would fix itself. But its probably the ribbon cable that goes up to the screen from the main part of the laptop. You have to feel around the base and see if that fixes it.

I could be wrong because I haven't tried to delete any wallpaper pictures from my control panel. But, I don't think you actually remove it from control panel%26gt;display. I think you have to delete the picture that is saved on your computer (or move it so that the display no longer knows the path to the picture).
Hopefully this helps!

How do I set my computer to have to need a password for customization?
Sometimes people will change things on our computer like then task bar to auto hide and the screensaver etc. How would I go about password protecting the task bar, screen saver etc? What I mean is I want people to be able to use the computer but unable to change settings like task bar and such.
I am using windows 7 btw.
Thanks,
JohnnyHow do I set my computer to have to need a password for customization?
Simply setup separate user accounts on the computer and password protect your account. You could create a second account called ';guest'; or whatever you wanted to. As long as no one has access to your account, your settings (task bar, screen saver, etc.) won't be changed. How do I set my computer to have to need a password for customization?
1: Create a limited user account, and password protect your own account. That way, when someone changes the settings on your computer, you won't notice them.
2: Use gpedit.msc to change group policy settings on your computer, so that others can not modify certain things.
3: You could also use software, which can be found through a simple google search, but usually costs money.

I can't change my desktop background!?
I went to change my background pic on my computer and the desktop tab had disappeared from the display properties window! Instead there are only the tabs; Themes/ScreenSaver/Appearance/Settings. I don't know how to change the background anymore, can anyone help?I can't change my desktop background!?
I had forgotten how to do this and I went to the ';search for questions'; section of answers and followed all the directions previously given and after a few efforts finally was able to figure out the terminology (I am a computer newbie) and change it! Try that if all else fails. I have been able to search for questions on several things that have helped me a lot learn how to run my computer! Good luck! By the way, my grandchildren are now on my computer smiling at me when I turn it on!I can't change my desktop background!?
if you have a certain picture you want for you desktop, right click on it and there will be a think saying set as back round and click on that .. then is done.you can do that with any picture you want on the internet

Next, I would check to see what's starting up with your computer by clicking run, then typing ';msconfig';. This will pop open a window and you want to click the startup tab. If your unsure of what these items are you can always google the process name to determine if it's an ok program.?br>
Also, I would check your add/remove program list to see if there are any suspect programs in there. ‥xample 800 Search Assistant . If you find anything, remove it.

I am having a problem with my screensaver, help?
Yesterday I noticed my screensaver stopped working. I know how to turn it on, set the time and the saver itself but it won't start. I changed the time to 2 minutes just for trying different options like running antivirus, spyware remover, etc...
Thank for any help and have a happy one!!!I am having a problem with my screensaver, help?
GO to properties and try viewing the preview screensaver. If that doesn't work, then you have a real problem. If it does work, try shortening it to 30 secs. If that doesn't work, see if there is any backround programs that are stopping your screensaver from working. Otherwise, good luck!I am having a problem with my screensaver, help?
The screen saver files probably got deleted, reinstall the screen saver.
hi,
it may be that ur computer is not able take the graphics requirment and u have not mentioned what OS u use cuz 98 and 95 are really bad for screen savers and if ur using firestorm screensaver better remove them they will damage ur comp screen and graphics
if they were working before and have stopped working now it may be because of the virus or try changing ur screensaver to something else and then try it out again

The screen saver files probably got deleted, reinstall the screen saver.
hi,
it may be that ur computer is not able take the graphics requirment and u have not mentioned what OS u use cuz 98 and 95 are really bad for screen savers and if ur using firestorm screensaver better remove them they will damage ur comp screen and graphics
if they were working before and have stopped working now it may be because of the virus or try changing ur screensaver to something else and then try it out again
hope this helps ok

Had work done on my comp., they set it to sleep mode but ?
Now when i try to wake it,,it only flickers and goes black.. I have to shut it all down including unplugging for a few min. , then it will just so so start up.. Can this be easily fixed or how do i change it back to just stay on screensaver ??? PLEASE HELP,, Thankyou ??Had work done on my comp., they set it to sleep mode but ?
To stop hibernate mode, you goto Control Panel and Display Properties. Click on Settings tab (at top) then click Power button. Now click Hibernate tab (at top). Uncheck the box ';Enable Hibernation';. I usually leave mine unchecked. I've always had trouble with sleep mode on all my computers. It sometimes works fine, sometimes it dont. But leaving that box unchecked it will not sleep, just stay in screen saver and then turn off the monitor at the time selected in the display properties area (under screensaver tab in display properties).Had work done on my comp., they set it to sleep mode but ?
Yowee shy I'd give the 10 to number 1. I have no clue what either of you are talking about but his answer sounds like he knows.

Hey Go direct to Google and enter what you entered hear
';screensaver in nokia n72';
lots and lots of screen savers will be available . But beware of the virus , 95% of the downloadable screen savers will contain Trojan,So better think twice b4 you download. My kind advice is not to install any screen savers ';especially in mobiles';. Why should you go to the problems
There's no Built-in software for that! Use PSILOC's Screensaver app for N72 to have extended picture/animation/calander screensaver options!!
Download it form the following thread!

RonHow do i change my computer screen background?
a screensaver is not what goes on your background, it's what the computer does when you are inactive for a preset amount of time. To make a picture your background, simply find the picture and right-click and choose Set as desktop background or something along those lines
right click on you desktop screen then click personalize and then click desktop background, then it might say browse and you should find it, it like that on mine :)
Just right-click your current backround go to properties and then desktop
right click on your dektop, click properties then screensaver.
On your desktop, right click. Then click on properties, then press screen saver, and then you can do it from there.
oh that's easy right click on your computer where there is nothing under the mouse.. then hit properties. click on screen saver adn their should be more since u downloaded more.. i think it works the same for Windows Vista...
On your main screen right click, and anoption box will appear, click on personalise, then go to desktop wallpaper and you can change it there :)
when u turn on the computer press start button
then go to control panel
go to display
u find the options
I see everyone else's answer but on my computer I have to go Control Panel then Systems

I have long forgotten the password to unlock the computer, how do i change it now?
or and this is a recent event, it just started to lock up when screensaver comes on. how can i stop it also. thanksI have long forgotten the password to unlock the computer, how do i change it now?
Most home pcs are set with no password on the administrator account.
To check shut down the pc and restart it- keep hitting the function key f8 - this will bring up safe mode. Once there select the administrator account. Leave the password as blank and then hit return.
If you are lucky you will get in. Once there hit the start button and select control panel. There select users. You will see a list of users- select your acc and then selct change password- enter a new password and reboot as normal.
To get rid of the screen saver go back to control panel and select display then the screen saver tab and untick the password option.
If your screen is an lcd (TFT) then turn the screensaver off- it has no benefit as screen burn is no longer an issue these days. Instead change the time taken for the screen to turn off in power settings.
If you are really stuck and cant find any passwords then use spotmau powersuite to change the passwords
http://www.spotmau.com/products/package/I have long forgotten the password to unlock the computer, how do i change it now?
Hi Lcd(tft) means not a cathode ray tube (like the old monitor/tv style). Cathode ray tubes needed the screen saver to refresh the screen and prevent images burning into the screen (like a fixed ghost).
LCD aka TFT are flat screens an inch or so deep. They are mush less likely to suffer image burn
Restart the PC and then, before the screensaver comes on, go to the screensaver options and take the tick out of ';on resume, return to welcome screen'; or ';require password'; or similar (depending on WIndows Version)
People still have screensavers? Whoa. Dude. Seriously. Screensavers are so 2008. Get with the times, just delete that and be hip again with us non-screensaver people.
Try going into safe mode. Then go into administrator. Then from there go to Control Panel. User Accounts. And remove the accounts password.
Use Safe mode, then change the settings. also, if your on vista, you should be able to make a password reset disc for you computer.

Is it possible to do any work with the maze screensaver?
is it possible to make the maze screensaver on windows 2000 playable like a game or something?
i want to make an rpg with it, using doors and rooms that i can make myself, but does anyoneknow how to make the maze playable through changing progaming or know a program that allows me to make something? Is it possible to do any work with the maze screensaver?
A. Windows 2000 sucks. Go to XP. B. You can't change screensavers, you would have to make your own, and making them playable, not possible.

you need to restrict GP to not allow access to display properties and manually set the screen saver on each machinethink of this boys name curly hair

What exactly is wrong with my computer and how do I fix it!?
ok, so Avast is giving me this warning:
--------------------------------------?br>
';A suspicious hidden object (rootkit) has been detected on your system. This may be a sign of a malware infection. It is recommended to remove the object immediately.';
File name: C:\WINDOWS\system32\wzghui.sys
Type: Rootkit: hidden process
--------------------------------------?br>
I've already taken all the recommended actions and have not made any progress at all. Also, every time I log onto my account, my desktop background changes to an image that reads:
';Warning! Spyware detected on your computer! Install an antivirus or spyware remover to clean your computer.';
In addition to that, the screensaver is automatically changed to something called ';blackster';. (basically it's just a bunch of bugs crawling on the screen eating away at the background image....kinda creepy.)
Any help with the situation would be great. What exactly is wrong with my computer and how do I fix it!?
Try both of these programs. They are both free.

You likely have the Backdoor.Rustock rootkit which will be hiding much more bad stuff.
Get antirootkit (free from sophos) and i think there is a windows rootkit remover also. You should also start doing your scans in safe mode (avg, adaware, hijackthis), and not use messenger progs / type any personal information on your computer until this is fixed. Also, never buy or download anything that your computer (via the malware) suddenly tells you too!
hi that one kid, bugs is a nasty business what i would do is first remove avast. then i would reboot and when you see your logo come up i would start tapping f8 then when the screen shows last time system ran correctly hit it and your half way home. when you are back at your desktop hit start%26gt;programs%26gt;accessories%26gt;and system tools scrol down to system restore and hit before you installed avast or before the error and hit apply. this will reboot and with any luck it will get rid of those pesty critters. but if it don't take your computer to a computer repairman and tell him that he needs to format your harddrive. i usually recommend that you save your work but if you do ya might carry the virus to the next install and you don't want this. hope i have been helpful good luck. sorry about your virus.

How can I stop my laptop logging me off due to inactivity?
I am using XP Pro. After a while I come back and the screen is black, Itouch the mouse and it takes me to the blue user login page. I'd rather it just stayed the way it was when I left it, how can I change this?
(It's not the screensaver that comes up it's the user account login page)
Thanks for your help. How can I stop my laptop logging me off due to inactivity?
Even though it's not the screen saver that comes up, it might have something to do with your screen saver settings. you may have the box next to ';on resume, display log screen'; checked. Check that, first. Next check your power options. (You may be able to get there from the screen saver screen, or you may have to go to Control Panel). Check to see if it's set to put your lap top to sleep or shut off your hard disks after a certain amount of time, that may be why you are getting a black screen when it's idle.
It's been a while since I used my lap top with XP (I have Vista now) but I remember having the same problem when I first got it and that's what it was, a combination of the screen saver kicking in and having that box checked, and the power option being set to turn off the hard disk after being idle for a while.
Hope that helps! How can I stop my laptop logging me off due to inactivity?
Please rightclick on your desktop, choose 'Properties' %26gt; Screen Saver %26gt; Uncheck 'On resume, display logon screen' checkbox %26gt; Apply your settings
You may also adjust the time for your monitor to turn off (either from that very Screen Saver tab, or from Control Panel %26gt; Power Options)

Go To:
Start Menu %26gt; Control Panel...
then figure it out
Go to desktop settings, then screen saver, then Power and change the settings
OR
it may be
Go to desktop settings, screen saver and unselect 'On resume password protect'.
Right click on the desktop and choose the bottom option personalise or something. Then choose screen saver and turn it off and find the option which says ';prompt log in screen'; when restarted.
You can set that up in you power options which can be found in the control panel or under the options for your laptop manufacturer. You will have to stop the computer from hibernating after a period of time.
Right click anywhere on the desktop, then click properties, go to the screen saver tab and set your screen saver to at least 1 hour, then right underneath that, click the button that says power, in the schemes tab, select ';presentation'; then OK.
ok. minimize and x out of everything. right click on the main screen and go to your properties and go to the screen savor tab. threre is a box that says on resume, display welcome screen. click that box and it shouldn't go to the log oorg/log on page. I hope this helps! :)

Webshots desktop won't uninstall?
When I went to get my computer de-virsed about a year ago, the lady returned it with ';Webshots desktop';, insisting that it would solve a lot of problems, since ';viruses often come with the download of screensavers and backgrounds';. I wasn't pleased with that, since I don't download screensavers and all I do for backgrounds is make them myself or right click and ';set as';, but we'll go with the flow.
However, I've decided I've put up with it for long enough; when you have this monstrosity in your computer, you CAN'T change your background or screensaver unless it's from their pile of backgrounds/screensavers. If you use a normal one from the internet, then it resets the next day to one from Webshots. Not only that, but it takes up a lot of space (mbites) for no particular reason.
Case and point, Webshots Desktop is driving me insane. I need to get rid of it; I searched how on google, and it says the usual; go to control panel, add %26amp; remove programs, and delete webshots, simple. I've used that method before with other programs. However, when I try to delete webshots, it's not even IN my add/remove programs!
It's /not there/! It goes from VeohTV to WebReg to Windows Defender; and so on; it's not listed.
Help?Webshots desktop won't uninstall?
Go to 'Search', and search for WebShots. It should definitely come up there. Then delete it.

Can the Antivirus virus be stopped?
My computer somehow got infected with the Antivirus 2008 a few weeks ago. I manually was able to delete it from my computer, however I can't get the message on my background to go away and can't change the background or screensaver. Also, I switched to Firefox because I heard it was safer than IE, however just now I got a popup asking me to sign up for Antivirus 2009! I clicked cancel, but it started downloading anyway. Luckily I was able to cancel out the Firefox before it got on the computer. What is this thing and how can we catch the people who are doing it and make it stop? Can the Antivirus virus be stopped?
Download and run firefox to protect your computer from future spyware attacks and pop ups which are coming in through internet explorer (Trojan downloaders, win32 ).Browser attacks aren't easy to spot because they piggyback on legitimate traffic that doesn't exhibit many obvious warning signs

Firstly, antivirus programs will NOT remove these as they are malicious codecs, although they may find reference to them and remove it but upon rebooting it's back again.
Therefore you need to use a 'layered' approach to removing this parasite.
Malwarebytes Anti-Malware:
http://www.download.com/Malwarebytes-Ant
Download, install, update and select Full Scan.
Remove all infections that it finds after scan.
Spybot S%26amp;D:
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/downl
Download, install, update and Immunize, then click 'Check for problems' then when complete select all and then 'Fix Checked'
Spyware Doctor Free Basic Edition - Realtime monitoring:
http://pack.google.com/intl/en/pack_inst
Its free with Google pack, untick all boxes except Spyware Doctor. Download install, update and run.
SUPERAntiSpyware Free Edition:
http://www.download.com/SUPERAntiSpyware
Download, install, check for updates, then select Scan your Computer, select your drive and select Perform Complete Scan
VundoFix:
http://www.symantec.com/content/en/us/gl
Disconnect your computer from the internet
Run vundo
Restart your computer
Run the tool again to ensure no traces are left.
If there are the reboot into Safe Mode and run FixVundo again.
If your desktop has changed or icons are missing also use:
Wallpaper Hijacker Removal Tool:
http://www.majorgeeks.com/Wallpaper_Hija
Note: You should hit all ';Repair'; buttons even though it may not say ';Found!'; This will fix a wallpaper hijack everytime if all repair buttons are pressed.
Finally download trial of Windows Live OneCare and Scan:
http://onecare.live.com
If the problem persists, turn OFF System Restore and scan with the above programs in Safe Mode, Right click My computer %26gt; select Properties %26gt; System Restore Tab %26gt; Tick Turn Off System restore on all drives.
After scans are complete and machine is clean remember to turn system restore back ON and create a new restore point.
Start --%26gt;%26gt; Run --%26gt; type ';msconfig'; and enter.
Go to Start Up tab, and locate the process that runs with system. To do this, check out all the files that runs by windows startup.
Also, switch to ';services'; tab, and check ';hide all Microsoft services'; tab. Now in reamining list, check out for strange services.
Good luck!

I recently got a virus.?
it removed the option to change my desktop background, screensaver, and other things.
at first there was a blue screen and i couldnt restart.
then i shut down all together and my desktop was changed.
how do i get rid of it?I recently got a virus.?
yeah that happened to me once.
but what i did was like run a virus scan like for the whole day and whole night.
it works, but you have to make sure that it is a strong virus scan, i used McAfee, its trusted everywhere and is very strong.
just buy the software and install it and run scans, after maybe like 2 weeks to 2 months( depends on how strng the virus is) it might go away.I recently got a virus.?
Run a good anti virus program
Download AVGFree and Adaware 2008 free edition by lavasoft. Run both of those and your computer will be completeley fine. They are both free and basically full version.. I use those.:] and You can use Norton AntiVirus which is not much better than AVGFree and it costs a lot.

Linux Problem?
I have Linux installed on my computer. I am new user of Linux.
During installation I enter password for Root Directory then I create a user.
After some days i want to change it background and screensaver but cannot.
System ask me to enter a root pasword that i forget.
How can i remove or change or get this passwors? Is it possible for me?Linux Problem?
You need access to the /etc/passwd or /etc/shadow file (depending on your setup) to change the root password, and most likely you do not have the permissions to change this file with your current account.
The best way I can think of, off the top of my head, is to either boot up a linux cd, and mount the hard drive, then edit the password, or some distributions have a way to boot into root without a password with a special boot parameter.
This boot parameter would have to be put in at the boot loader (I usually use Grub as my boot loader)
It would be easier to assist you if you had told me the distribution you are using, though you can Google ';forgot root password [name of distribution here]'; and most likely you will find your answer, or check the documentation for your distribution, most likely it will be easy to find (forgetting a password is not so uncommon)Linux Problem?
There is no need to reinstall Linux, all Linux distributions have some way to get in and change the root password as long as you have the computer right there with you.
Root is the key to administration in Linux. If you have forgotten your Root password, I do not know if you can recover your admin rights.
Your best bet is to reinstall
Try entering your own user password. I am root on my system so only need to enter my own password. It's alwasy helpful to list what distribution of linux you are using I.e. fedora, mandriva, ubuntu, susesuits brown skin shared hosting

How can I make dvd's play in my dvd-vcr player with tv on dual mode satellite receiver & 36 in. tv?
I have a 36in RCA cabinet tv that is tied into a satellite dish with a dual mode receiver that enables the one receiver to serve 3 different tvs. Also attached to this tv is a Samsung DVD-VCR player. The problem is that some DVD's just won't play. The screen says this disc cannot be played, yet it plays ok on another dvd player that is built into a very inexpensive Magnavox TV. The disks that won't play are rented ones or some mood-enhancers I bought that play natural sounds, music, and a changing scene similar to a screensaver, for example a fire in a fireplace or waterfalls. Again, these same DVD's play ok on my Magnavox. I contacted Dish tech support both on the phone and online to no avail. Phone guy said he'd get back to me but didn't. Online had no sensible way to describe the problem. I tried to contact
Samsung; again, communication failed. I fed all the codes the satellite gave me into the satellite receiver to enable my Samsung, but it didn't work. How can I make dvd's play in my dvd-vcr player with tv on dual mode satellite receiver %26amp; 36 in. tv?
Dvd-VCR combo player are very picky when it came to playing dvds due to the protection circuit built-in to prevent illegal tapes copy. The player may think that the dvds you're trying to play is a copy. Your best bet is to use a stand alone dvd player and hook up a vcr player to it if you want to have both.

I need to change the computer screen from landscape to portrait - how can I do this?
It's Windows XP - and before you suggest file, changing the page setting etc - it's not to print. The whole screen, screensaver, file menu, etc are all sideways. When you open a window, it too is sideways.

thanks alooot dude that helped so mutch !!!!!!!
It's not the screen you want to change, it's the picture itself, what you need to do is to go to where the picture is, click on the picture and and just to the left of the red X is two small green icon, which is also to the left of what looks like magnifying glasses. click on one of those and the picture should right itself. If it goes upside down keep clicking until the picture is where it's suppose to be.
There are a couple of possible reason for this
Firstly - there is a Virus that does what you describe, can't remember the name of it, but do a virus scan first
Secondly - Some monitors have the facility to work in Landscape or Portrait mode, %26amp; usually you will find that a piece of software has been installed that allows this to happen - unfortunately different monitor manufacturers do thing differently so I cannot tell how to find it
Thirdly - Some video drivers ALSO have this facility. I cannot tell you how using ATI graphic cards, but with Nvidia cards (with latest drivers installed) follow these steps
%26gt;Right click anywhere on the desktop %26amp; you MAY see ' Nvidia Control Panel' - Select this
%26gt;Click on 'Rotate Display' option on the left, %26amp; you should have 4 options - Select the 'No Rotation' option
If you DO NOT see 'Nvidia Control Panel' when you right click on desktop then
%26gt;Right click anywhere on the desktop

%26gt;Click [Advanced] button

Can you change the screen saver on a sidekick 2008?
Can you set a picture you took as your screensaver on a sidekick 2008? because I knew how to do it w/ my sidekick 3, but not on this phone. Is it possibe? and how do you do it?Can you change the screen saver on a sidekick 2008?
From what I've read, it's not possible. I've even tried it myself. What I do is I go the free themes sites like sk08themes.com and make my own using pics i've taken. :)Can you change the screen saver on a sidekick 2008?
By screen saver are you referring to the theme or the key guard?
1.) theme - www.sk08themes.com, www.sklxthemes.com will work perfect as well for your SK08. You can easily download free themes at those two sites.
2.) key guard - Go to: MENU - SETTINGS - KEY GUARD %26amp; SECURITY. from there you will have several options. What's already automatically highlighted will be a teensy weensy version of what your phone looks like when it goes into the key guard. Click on the trackball, and from there you will either be able to keep what you already have as your key guard, or you'll have the option to choose from the picture folder on your phone. You'll also be able to customize a display message :)

Sadly there is only one answer and its not pretty. the only real answer is a rebuild. the registry will be really confused if you try anything else.
the registry is the heart and soul of the PC.

How to keep my computer from showing screensaver when idle?
I want to know how to change my computer set up so that when it's idle it will not show screensaver and instead just show the current programs I left running . Like when I am downloading pictures or converting movies it takes time and sometimes I leave , when I come back the computer is in screensaver mode since it's idle . Before I reinstalled my OS it didn't do that and remained the way I left it when idle . I am not sure what I did then so please help out ..... Thank you !How to keep my computer from showing screensaver when idle?
Right click on your desktop, go to properties. Go to the screensaver tab, and select none. Then apply. How to keep my computer from showing screensaver when idle?
For that right click anywhere in your desktop and click 'Properties'. You'll get a window displaying different tabs and options. Select the 'Screen Saver' tab and there you'll see dropdown box displaying different screensavers. Select (None) and then click 'OK'.
You're done.
go into control panel under look/feel open it up and change your screensaver settings.
I have faced the same problem. Solution is simple and here:
On desktop right click mouse
Open property
Click on Screen Saver Tab
Choose non(it is the first one) from the drop down menu
Click OK then leave.
You can set screen saver later by doing this instead of non choose whatever you like click OK and leave.
I hope this will help you
nihon94@yahoo.com
On your desktop, right click somewhere clear, go down to properties. In the properties, click on the Screen Saver tab, under screen saver, changer it to None. This will stop it. You can also go to Power, under Monitor power and change those settings so that your screen or CPU don't shut down or go into ';sleep'; mode when left alone for a while.
go to your desk top and right click . scroll down to properties At the top you will see screen saver .click on it and go down and you will see the word none click on it and you will have no screen saver.
.
Turn the screensaver off. in the control panel go to desktop settings i believe.
check out http://www.flashpixels.co.uk
Right click on your desktop and then go to Properties, after properties chooses there will be one of the option for screen saver click on that after clicking screen saver there will be an option for setting click on that and select NEVER, and then apply Ok
hope this helps
I'm assuming that ur using Win XP ok? Well, click on your Start Menu button, choose Control Panel, click on 'Appearance %26amp; Themes, click on 'Choose a screen saver'
then finally choose 'None'
This should solve your problem immediately. I used to have the same problem.
It's so simple. Just right click on empty space on desktop choose property than in opening window's top click screensaver another window will open here choose none by scrolling.

How do i change how long my computer screen lasts before it turns off? (read details)?

hey not many xp users still. anyway, just open your control panel, find display options or anything else that has to do with display if there is no display options. the menu that comes up once you find screen saver should have a picture of a monitor on it, and a window below that says the different screen saver options, such as black or slide show, etc. etc. now, underneath that should have some way of choosing how long to have the computer unused before it goes into screen saver. now, be careful with this. if you set it too long then the image that you leave on your computer could become burned onto the screen. what that means is when you go to a different page, you will see somewhat of a shadow that is the screen that got burned. now, this isn't permanent but there is now way to make it go away except wait. now, you can set the time longer if your just watching a movie or video but remember to lower it again after wards. it will only go into screen saver if you don't touch the mouse or keyboard for the time you have it set.How do i change how long my computer screen lasts before it turns off? I have a HP w1707 monitor and now there is black on both sides of the image whenever I watch a video on Youtube or whenever my screensaver pops up. I was told at one place that it had to be switched back to widescreen, like it used to be. (When I 1st got it, the image fit the screen perfectly-on Youtube it looked a tad strange, but not a huge annoyance. Are you signed in as Admin? You should be able to go to:
Apple Logo-%26gt;System Preferences-%26gt;Desktop %26amp; Screen Saver, then click on the Desktop tab at the top.
That SHOULD take you to the ';choose your desktop'; screen. If not you might not be signed on as Admin and whoever does have Admin must have blocked it. Or, if you are Admin, you may just have locked that option - is there a small padlock at the bottom left of the Preference screen? If it's locked click on it, put in your Admin password, and then change the wallpaper.

Screen Saver Question?
Usually in order to access screen saver settings you go into the classic control panel, click on appearance and themes and then there's something to click that says screen saver. That's not the case on my computer. I got a virus about 6 months ago that changed my desktop background to something saying that I had a virus. Since then, there hasn't been an option in control panel to change my desktop background or my screensaver. I can change my background by simply right clicking and clicking set as desktop background. However, I can't do this with a screensaver and all that happens when i don't touch the mouse is that the computer waits for about 15 minutes and then the screen goes straight to power save mode. How do i fix this? Any ideas or solutions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!Screen Saver Question?

Go directly to its location, rather than use Spotlight. In a Finder window, go to System / Library / PreferencePanes. If it is there, double-click to open it. If it is not there, or it won't open, use Pacifist, link below, to extract it from the Leopard DVD and put it at System / Library / PreferencePanes.

How to fix the flickering, or blinking on windows screensaver marquee?
I change the resolutions, the hertz to 60 and 75, used different monitors, drop the speed, ran spyware detection, I don't have software running in the background slowing the processor, I have plenty memory available and I also change the drivers. What else can I do to stop the flickering? Any ideas? (HP DF 5150 ATI 200 video card)How to fix the flickering, or blinking on windows screensaver marquee?
Sorry: that screensaver has *always* flickered like that, and I have been in the industry since before there was Windows. I can only speculate as to why, but I can affirm that it has nothing to do with your hardware or the configuration that you are using. Most likely, the programmer(s) used a poor algorithm for the animation: when you're programming a ';moving'; image, if you erase the current image before drawing the new one, you get an effect like this. The proper method is to draw the new image first and *then* erase any leftover bits of the previous one.
You can improve it with faster hardware, but it's always going to flicker. Always has.

How do I change the Mac Appearance?
I want to change my mac appearance, as in the toolbar, dock etc... not screensaver, wallpaper. I've heard of shape shifter but they all cost money is there any which are free? How do I change the Mac Appearance?
No. I suppose that even though it's the correct answer, it won't get me a Best Answer vote unless I give some more details.
You can change the items listed and their positions in the Dock, as you probably already know.
In Mac OS, what you see at the top of the screen is a menu bar for whatever application is running at the ';front';. When it shows ';Finder'; next to the Apple logo, that means SystemUIServer.app is running at the front. It's the ';user interface'; that serves as the hub of getting around and finding stuff. That's why it shows ';Finder'; in the menu bar as the name of the application. You can't easily hack that as it is closely tied to the Aqua interface of OS X. The position of the headers are fixed and the options under each header are also except that a few things change from grey (not available) to black (available) depending on what disks are mounted or what is selected on the desktop or in a Finder window.
For 10.4 Tiger, you can install FruitMenu, almost free (U.S. $10), from Unsanity, link below, that gives you many options for how things appear in the Finder menu bar and what options you have from contextual menus (right-click / option-click) in the Finder. It does not affect the menu bar of other applications. That would take a huge amount of development related to each and every application that could possibly be launched since each application has its own menu scheme.
I tried FruitMenu a few years ago and found it slows down the launch of the system. Keep checking their Website as rumor mill says they will release a Leopard version of FruitMenu in the next couple of weeks.

How do i install original XP screensaver - no tabs in settings?
I accidentally deleted screensaver after a virus changed my desktop. There are no tabs for screensaver in settings. I don't want to reinstall whole XP. There are no theme or screensaver tabsHow do i install original XP screensaver - no tabs in settings?
This happened to me recently. I picked up the AntiVirus 2008 virus. None of my proper anti virus or registry cleaners would get rid of it permanently. If any part of this virus remains in the system, the PC will still be infected with the subsequent blue screen logo and your anti virus system shouting that you have a ';badjoke'; bluescreen program. So this is what you need to do to get rid of this permanently and restore your screensaver program without reinstalling your XP disc or use program restore. It a bit of a pain, but that is why these bugs are designed to do. Cause disruption.
So here goes.
1. Open regit and in edit select find.
tell it to find phcv1cj0er1q.
2. Open Widows in C drive and locate the screensaver icon of the same as above. It will show as a paintbrush icon.
3 Then open system 32 and locate the program of the same or similar name. Once located you will need to delete this, however it's clever. the program is write protected. Some you need to cut and paste it to your desktop. Reboot the system and before it has a chance to activate. In other words as soon as your startup programs begin to load-send it to your recycle bin. Now for the last piece.
Go back into regedit and under HK Current Users. Locate policies. Change all values to ';0';. this should restore the screensaver tab. AND if you've done your jobs correctly, the antivirus program should not delete it from your system.
Good luck. How do i install original XP screensaver - no tabs in settings?

Screen savers are only used as decoration these days.
The function for what they were designed is out dated for years now. Screen savers should prevent icons burning in in your screen. That is not happening any more. Unless you leave your pc on for a couple of months with the same icons on your desktop
Most people who still use screen savers do it as decoration. There are plenty of nice once you can find on the interenet.
You have of course tries already to righ click on desktop and go to properties There you must see Screen saverswhat is a cd rom asp hosting
